Kurt Karsten

Kurt began actively working in renewable energy in 2007 when he was hired to help organize and establish the Maryland portion of Bluewater Wind’s Offshore Wind project. In 2008, Kurt retired from his law firm, Cowdrey, Thompson & Karsten, PA after over 23 years as a complex civil litigation trial attorney. As a solo practitioner, Kurt has consulted in utility scale and large commercial scale renewable energy projects with corporations, municipalities and individual communities in over 17 states, Mexico and the Bahamas. He is Chairman-Elect of the Maryland Bar Association’s Section on Energy and Environmental Law. Kurt graduated with a major in Political Philosophy from Amherst College after obtaining a certificate from the Sorbonne in Paris, and did post graduate work at Bryn Mawr and Haverford Colleges, prior to completing his JD at Vanderbilt University School of Law. He has been very active in several community organizations and on behalf of Amherst College over the past 43 years. He has four wonderful children and lives with his wife Michelle in Annapolis, MD.
