Richard Turman

Richard has lived on Valentine Creek, a tributary of the Severn River in Crownsville, since 2013. A native Californian, where he grew up water-skiing and learned to sail, Richard now races his 24’ sailboat in the Severn’s Round Bay. He’s managed to spend over 100 days on the water each of the last three years, tracking his days as a member of SpinSheet’s Century Club. Richard’s professional career included 27 years in the Federal civil service, including senior postings at the Office of Management and Budget, the National Institutes of Health, the Food and Drug Administration, and the Department of Health and Human Services, where he served as acting CFO. His educational training includes a master’s in public policy from UC Berkeley and a BA in history and economics from UC Santa Cruz. He now works as a nonprofit executive and volunteers his time as the Treasurer and Rear Commodore of the Round Bay Sailing Association. Richard and his wife are dedicated participants in the Maryland Grows Oyster program, with a long-standing interest in improving the water quality in our little corner of paradise that is the Severn River.
