Your Chance To Help Charities @Tug-O-War

Volunteers Needed!

Who’d like to have a lot of fun, meet some interesting people, hear some great live music and support local charities?

It’s all possible next Saturday, Nov. 3, for those who can volunteer a couple of hours to help our pals at the Back Creek Conservancy staff a ticket booth during the annual Tug-O-War between Eastport and Annapolis.

Or, as the locals recognize the event: It’s the Maritime Republic of Eastport (MRE) v. City Dock.

To volunteer, email: david@gyatso.net

Representatives from the MRE kicked off the Tug-O-War festivities earlier this month, as they do every year, by “declaring war” on the City of Annapolis. The declaration tradition enlivens our City Council meetings with a rowdy, rag-tag delegation of MRE partisans.

Their declaration announces the famous “Slaughter Across the Water” that features a tug-o-war across Annapolis Harbor, which to some is referred to as the “Gulf Of Eastport.”  Guess which side calls it that?

Your choice of three shifts!

We need volunteers to help out during three shifts:

  1. 10:30 to 1 pm
  2. 1 pm to 3 pm, and
  3. 3 pm to 5 pm.

You’ll be helping raise money for local charities. All the proceeds from the MRE street party on the Eastport side on 2nd Street next to the Chart House.

It’s where the action is all day. The actual Tug-O-War starts at the crack ‘o noon. Then the rest of the day is a street party on 2nd Street. It’s all there, food, fun, musicians, beer, wine, vendors, artists.

A GRAND TIME IS GUARANTEED!
