Can You Help Restore Oysters To The Severn?

Published: July 12, 2021

With your support now, we can continue to re-populate the Severn River with oysters this summer to plant 20 million oyster spat-on-shell and open another oyster restoration reef.

The Severn River Association is again partnering with the Oyster Recovery Partnership (ORP) this year.

The Build-A-Reef campaign is part of SRA’s strategic vision to re-populate oysters in the Severn River so they can filter and clean the river.

One day we’ll plant enough oysters to create a sustainable fishery!

The picture at right shows how the oyster spat-on-shell are planted from the deck of the oyster planting vessel, The Robert Lee.

Thanks to your continued support, we are making significant progress towards restoring oysters to the Severn.

In July 2018, we planted 41 million baby oysters.

In July 2020, we planted another 16.9 million spat-on-shell just outside Weems Creek.

We’re now counting on you to help us plant 20 million oyster-spat-on-shell in the Severn River!
