A Fisherman’s Best Friend – Oyster Reefs!

When fishermen get talking, you’ll hear all kinds of stories about the ones that got away, or if you’re lucky, you get to admire a selfie with a grandson holding the biggest dang fish you’ve ever seen.

Oh, you’ll hear stories … about the line, the rods, the flies, the tackle, the bait, the weather, the whatever. But the one thing these tellers of tall tales don’t reveal is where they caught this prize-winning catch.

It’s always a secret … until now.

You can get in on the secret on Tuesday, January 15, at Union Jack’s Pub in Parole, when the Severn River Association (SRA) launches the 2019 edition of its monthly Educational Speaker Series.

The topic: A Fisherman’s Best Friend – Oyster Reefs!

Our special guest speaker will be renowned naturalist, educator and avid fisherman, John Page Williams, naturalist with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.

Everyone’s invited to come out and enjoy John Page’s presentation to learn why a fisherman’s best friend should be an oyster reef.

John Page will explain why oyster reefs are such great spots for fishing, and even better, John Page will reveal the best spots on the Severn River to take advantage of the benefits oyster reefs create for fishermen of all ages.

John Page is author of a fantastic guidebook, Exploring The Chesapeake In Small Boats, so he knows a thing or three about fishing, especially in small boats.

All throughout his illustrious career, John Page has written hundreds articles about the Chesapeake Bay, from Capt. John Smith’s adventures to the ecology and habitat that support horseshoe crabs, oysters, blue crabs and of course, fishing.

So, where to learn about all this?
