Spying On The Hidden World of Oyster Reefs
Published: May 9, 2022
How do scientists keep an eye on oysters as they rebuild new oyster reefs? With cool new technology!
Please join us for our next John Wright Speaker Series – on May 17 (6:30 pm) – to meet Allison Colden, Maryland Fisheries Scientist with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
Allison will explain how she uses emerging technologies to “spy” on oyster restoration reefs to track restoration efforts in our scenic Severn River.
Oysters are a keystone species of the Chesapeake Bay. But the loss of oysters and their reef ecosystems has left the Chesapeake Bay in an ecological deficit, one that requires diligent restoration efforts to bring back reefs and their role in the ecosystem.
Allison will present on CBF’s oyster restoration efforts in the Severn River and using emerging technology to explore the hidden, underwater world of oyster reefs.
