Severn River Association welcomes new board members for greater impact

The Severn River Association (SRA) expanded its board from 9 to 15 members in April as two members finished up their terms, and eight new members joined. As outgoing board president and former Maryland DNR Secretary Joe Gill noted, “The new members bring considerable skills in diverse areas and will help SRA accelerate its work towards a Thriving Severn River by 2050.” Mike Davis, board treasurer added, “The nominating committee was extremely gratified by the large number of highly qualified professionals who were enthusiastic about joining this board. In fact, we added more members than planned, thereby dramatically increasing the board’s capabilities and geographic reach.”

The new board members include: incoming board president, John Cryan, former CEO of Deutsche Bank; Rob Beach,Vice President of Communications at Chesapeake Bay Foundation; Jonathan Bullock, Director of Sales at Hinckley Yachts; Kristyn Kuhn Eckel, former leader of Communications and Marketing for the Severn School; Bob Gallagher, the founder of the West/Rhode Riverkeeper program; Joanna Goger, environmental law and policy professor at the University of Maryland; Kurt Karsten, an attorney with 17 years of experience in the renewable energy field; and Richard Turman, former acting CFO of the US Department of Health and Human Services.

When asked about his new role with SRA, John Cryan remarked, “I am thrilled to be joining a local organization with a comprehensive plan to create a Thriving Severn River by 2050. I look forward to supporting Jesse Iliff and his team in their efforts to  achieve this goal.”
